Nice, the pearl city of the Riviera

Nice is the nicest large town on the Riviera. The old city with its outdoor shops and its stairs streets is charming. Note the typical shutters. In the morning you will see more activity. Don't miss the flower market on Sunday morning. The church of Gesu is quite pretty, opposite it, there is a shop selling products made by monks, cookies from Brittany and liquors are very good, there you can also find the lavender cooked wine from Madonna d’Utelle.

Enjoy a walk along the "Promenade des Anglais", on your way you will see the famous pink hotel Negresco. Behind it starts the pedestrian area which leads to the most commercial street: Jean Medecin with the select shopping mall Etoile. The large street is now reserved to the brand new tramway which is so useful for travelling in the city. There are also many beautiful XIXth century houses.

Don’t miss the Cimiez area with Roman ruins, Franciscan monastery, Chagall & Matisse museums, the Orthodox Russian Church. Massena palace, Salver palace, Lascaris palace with gorgeous stuccoes staircases, ceilings and paneling.

The port is also pretty with its ancient red-ochre houses.

There are several interesting museums ( Fine Arts, Modern Arts, Asian Arts, Terramata, Massena...) as well as film studios (La Victorine).
